We name the stars, so why did we stop reaching for them?
25 years ago the most important chapter for Muslims in Technology & Entrepreneurship was written. A group of mis-fits defied all odds to build and sell a company for over a billion dollars. Later, one of them founded his next company to take humans to the moon. Another changed the face of financial technology, whilst yet another of the mis-fits built an internet business so large it monopolised a third of internet bandwidth.
Whilst this group built startups to explore the stars that Muslim astronomers named, the world gave this collection of people a name. They became known as the PayPal Mafia.
Decades later, the most powerful companies on earth still trace their bloodline back to that one room. And there wasn't a single Muslim present.
What if that room had been ours? What if Muslim Tech Fest is the room we look back on in 25 years time?
