
# Lamyea Ahmed

Lamyea is a PhD researcher at the University of Birmingham whose work focuses on human experience and human factors within next generation aerospace systems. With a background in aerospace engineering spanning aviation and space, her interests centre around how emerging technologies can be designed to advance capability and to better support the people interacting with them.

Alongside her research, she has been actively involved in the UK space sector through the charity UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (UKSEDS), where she has held leadership roles including Vice Team Lead for the National Rocketry Championship, Executive at-Large of the organisation and Vice Team Lead of the Diversity & Advocacy team. Her work has included national student engagement initiatives, accessibility and workforce research and collaboration with organisations including the UK Space Agency, the British Interplanetary Society, the Royal Astronomical Society and the Space Universities Network, alongside astronauts including John McFall and Dr. Shawna Pandya.

Her recent work has explored barriers to entry into the UK space sector for students and recent graduates, with a focus on accessibility, representation and how future talent can be better supported within frontier industries. This research will be presented at the International Astronautical Congress 2026.

Lamyea's interest in In-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM) comes from both technical and human-centred perspectives. Her work has included the development of AR and VR concepts for aerospace and space operations, including robotic teleoperation systems and immersive head-up interfaces for future in-space activity. She is particularly interested in how technologies such as robotics, in-orbit manufacturing and autonomous operations are transforming space from isolated missions into long-term, sustainable infrastructure that humanity can actively build, maintain and work within.
